Funny though most would say I don't have a life but the truth is, I only have 1 character I play. 6 slots...2 pve chars (1 i rarely ever play). So if I've been playing the game since it came out, I proabably should have fow in more than a year of playtime, don't you think? |

Make a SS or 55 hp monk. farm at least 10 ecto per day(10-15 smite runs).
Solo FoW, or go to PuG grops in FoW and get at least 10 Shards per day. Sell the drops, buy material, be happy with it. |

Play the game properly and go to FoW/UW with normal groups, have fun while collecting your ectos and shards.

Again what you guys said makes me think im never going to get it because i dont have the time to do 10-15 smite runs and yes i have a ss necro that i farm with, i farm fow alot on my war and get about 2-3 shards a run i have enough for my helm after 1 day but now i dont have that 100k cusion (from buying ecto). i think havng cash for ecto really helps because farming spiders are very easy. i just dont really know if this is going to happen

A lot of Ettin farming back when runes were worth a lot more. Farming in areas that I can solo. Taking advantage of material price spikes. For a while Chittin Fragments and Plant Fibers were selling for a lot. It was at the time of the Factions release and some armour sets were requiring a lot of these. As many FoW runs as I could get in.
I took my time and accumulated a lot of cash and materials over several months. When I decided I wanted Obsidian Armour, I devoted my game time to farming and got my materials together. I was not given anything and just used my accumulated wealth and took advantage of pricing (low ecto prices for example). |

______________________________ To get a FOW Armor, the best advice i can give to just play normally as you would have allways done. Don't get lured by other armors, don't buy minipets or weapons or whatever may distract you from your goal. You might be a bit slower in getting your FOW Armor but you won't exhaust yourself by constant farming. The most important "secret" to FOW Armor is to take it easy. If you're pressing it by constant farming, if you're so focussed on it that you play 6+ hours a day to get it - chances are you won't enjoy it in the end. You don't see too many Obsidian Armors in the game. They're rare and few inbetween even though thousands and thousands have probably bought it. The reason behind this is that they put too much effort into getting one. As sone as they had it they lost interest in Guild Wars and stopped playing GuildWars shortly after. I got my FOW mainly from doing just that. Normal playing, normal unlocking. A bit of questing here there, some helping a guildmate in a mission there and the occasional trip to the Underworld. The most important rule simply is, pick everything up. Identify everything. Alternatively if you've got a good knowledge about materials you can also salvage some of those to get that occasional rare salvage item out of it. Or the material is part of another high end material which you could happily craft afterwards. Like with the good old wood -> Parchment trick which is now too widely known to net you anything. Finally, work the market a bit. You don't have to be online 24/7. That's just bullshit, but you should have a look at the market whenever you've got the time for it and see if it is at a peak (good time to sell your stuff) or at a low (good time to buy stuff). And last but not least, it goes faster if you've got friends helping you. |

The way i got my armor was doing it with my ele,Doing UW with ss/sv necro, farming troll's,minorturs, ettin's and Hydra's (on the ring's of the fire chain for the trothy's they drop and exchange if for 1k a time lol )
and any item i got i would make a profit from,Not spending anymoney! also when ecto's fell to around 4k each and shards at 2k each(I knew it was going to happen when faction's came out :P) i just farmed for cash and brought the ecto's for ultra cheap . But most important you must plan before you get the armor(like I did), to how you are going to get it and the time to get it..so forth.. and do what you normaly do, you always get a rare item worth a lot of cash from where ever you quest in Guild Wars, Use the item you find spend some time trying to sell it when lot's of people are online. |

This is how I am getting my FoW armor - pick up everything. It is taking me awhile - just playing the game. I am going to so look forward to when I get it - no more of my monk running around more than half naked. Yes I know I could get Factions armor - but I don't like the looks. |

But yeah, if you play only one or 2 hours a day, it's gonna take a few months, but definitely not a few years |

I'll echo (ftw) a few of the previous posters: I got my Fissure armor (partially depicted in my av) by running that necro as an ss/sv for 2-man uw farming. Since virtually the entire cost of fissure armor is in ectos and shards, it's like this: farm out the ectos, then farm some more to trade 3 ectos for 2 shards.
Took me about a month to farm out all those ectos and extras for shards. The thing is you need to find a reliable partner who plays the same time you do, know the run well and be fast and efficient. You can chest farm at the same time too. It's actually pretty fun. I do it a little bit now and then mainly for nostalgia and the fun factor, because I'm set armor wise. UW is actually a farming that IS fun, not many cases of that. Having a partner/friend to do it with is nice too, someone you can split 50/50 without having to ask/demand for your share. For necro fissure armor you need a TON of dusts (and wood), and all those ghostly residues and demonic remains salvage to about 7 dusts each (plus salvaging all the white bows and staffs give you the wood you need). You really can earn everything you need for fissure armor in proportion just by farming uw. |

edit: i recently found a great spell not normally used by ss/sv for uw farming: reckless haste. It speeds up the SS'ing and reduces the damage the 55er takes. Hook it up.
